In a sea of Rogue-likes, very few really stand out above the rest. Games like Hades (and its sequel), Vampire Survivors, and a host of other Rogue-likes have stood out while the market oversaturated itself. One that stood out for me was Neon Abyss, a cyberpunk/mythology fusion I keep returning to. Neon Abyss is getting a sequel, and I couldn’t be more excited.

Neon Abyss 2 is coming to Steam Early Access sometime in 2025. Five years after the original release of Neon Abyss, the sequel will bring fast-paced gameplay and a host of new ideas. Here is what the press release from developer Veewo Games says about the announcement:

“Award[-]winning indie developer Veewo Games today announced Neon Abyss 2, their chaotic cybermyth [Rogue-like]. This time everything goes to 11: faster action, higher stakes[,] and endless possibilities make each run more action-packed than the last. Get ready for a vibrant, pixelated[,] and chaotic adventure when Neon Abyss 2 enters Early Access in 2025 on PC via Steam.

A sequel to the 2020 [Rogue-like] run ‘n’ gun hit, this installment raises the stakes in every way. Frantic run ‘n’ gun gameplay returns with a twist – an all-new weapon system lets you decide your own combat style. Get up close and personal with melee weapons or unleash chaos from a distance with a range of unique firearms.

Mix and match combat styles using an arsenal that lets you tear through the Abyss in your own way. Item synergies are back and wilder than ever. Hunt down powerful items and stack them to make combinations that make every run one-of-a-kind.

Players will once again dive into the Abyss with their favorite companions by their side – Hatchmon. These adorable and vibrant companions evolve into powerful allies, adding an extra layer of excitement to every run.

Neon Abyss 2 is currently in development for PC with Early Access in 2025 bringing players an array of new features, formidable enemies, powerful gods, updated loot[,] and hidden secrets.”

I can’t overstate how excited I am for this announcement. Neon Abyss flew under the radar for a lot of folks, not to mention it had some issues on consoles. However, the Early Access model for the sequel gives the dev team time to fix some issues as they go. It also allows them to add or adjust things based on user feedback. Hopefully, we’ll find out more soon about when we’ll be able to get our hands on Neon Abyss 2.
